US FEDERAL Communications Commission chairman Kevin Martin has announced that he is leaving the agency to join a non-partisan think tank called the Aspen Institute.

Martin announced that he was leaving the FCC on Thursday but did not say when he was cleaning out his desk.

His announcement follows the news that President-elect Barack Obama has named open internet fan Julius Genachowski to be the next FCC chairman. µ
