ONLY YESTERDAY we were banging on about Intel's 'leaked' N280 Atom processor, and now AMD's come up with a flash announcement at PC World. Coincidence, shurely...
According to John Taylor of the green team, the dual-core AMD Congo platform will be released sometime in the second half of 2009 and will succeed the current Neo, providing a dual-core solution to 'ultrathin' devices.
The AMD Congo is a 65nm dual-core+chipset equivalent of the Neo, with a more up-to-date graphics core and chipset (SB700 series), according to sources.
Looking at 2009, it's hard not to be excited about the ultra-portable market. For one, Intel's N280 is single-core, but the company can easily shift it to dual-core down the road. Then you've got this 'Neo X2', and you still have the unofficial dual-core Nano that should be available at the same time.
Don't think this has ever happened before in CPU history... µ

I just hope that AMD either release these chips in AM2/AM3 format so enthusiasts can make use of them or as a Desktop or MiniITX board.
I'm sure one of these beasties would make a great MythTV box.

The next dual core chip I'm buying from AMD is going to be 45nm. I think I can hold off until they decide to release some.
Thank our lucky stars there is an AMD to force mighty Intel to go to a duo cpu
