PERSONAL COMPUTER sales plummeted during the 2008 Christmas buying season, falling substantially below Microsoft's earlier forecast.
PC sales fell by 0.4 per cent in the 4th quarter, after having increased 15.8 per cent in the 3rd quarter, according to IDC. It termed the drop "dramatic", saying "the pace at which the economic environment unraveled and the extent to which PC purchases were affected was faster than anticipated."
The sharp reversal caught Microsoft by surprise. In its prior quarterly conference call, the Vole had said it anticipated PC shipments to increase by 10 to 12 per cent in the 4th quarter. µ

Funny that. Last quarter I built two friends computers, and helped another two pick out parts to build their own PCs. I guess the analysts don't look at component sales. I know NewEgg has made a nice chunk of change from myself and pals. :) Cheers, John
PCs, hardware, electronics and other product sales are drastically down worldwide as we slide deeper into a long economic recession that is headed for a depression.
as I thought. 0.4 percent in a worldwide recession. hardly "plummeting" by any stretch of the imagination.
it could be much worse and we all know that. it cant be all gold right now but at least the economy is headed in the right direction now that the treasury has agreed to release like 300+billion to help out.
main street is an artery. save it and we'll live thru this.
