THE GOOGLE MONSTER has confessed, via an internal blog posting, that it has slashed 100 of its recruiting organisation jobs.

Laszlo Bock, Veep of Google's People Operation, wrote "Google is still hiring but at a reduced rate," adding, "Given the state of the economy, we recognized that we needed fewer people focused on hiring."

Outside contractors were the first to have their services culled last month as Google began to feel the bite from the credit crunch. But the firm obviously now feels it has to take even more strident action to protect its revenues.

Google stock promptly fell as the announcement hit the web, reaching $296.99 in after-hours trading. µ
