Motorola to cut 4,000 more jobs in 2009

Toll reaches 7,000 in 18 months

TROUBLED MOBILE PHONE outfit Motorola is giving P45s to more than 4,000 people over the next year.

In a company statement the cuts were piled on top of the 3,000 it announced last year.

Motorola hopes to save an additional $700 million a year starting in 2009. This will mean $1.5 billion in annual savings when combined with the previous cut.

More than a 1,000 of the cuts will be in administration, but the rest seem to be happening within the outfit's mobile devices business. µ
