PRE-CES SHOWS had a few neat toys on display for all to see, and us to bring to you. They were a big NAS, a USB 3.0 hard drive, and a really nifty USB screen.
The first one isn't anything new looking, it is just a big NAS box, 4TB big. This one is called the Western Digital ShareSpace, and it comes in 2 and 4 TB versions. It uses WD drives, and if the rumors are true, we will be seeing an 8 TB version in the not so distant future. It comes with Greenpower drives, so it should be relatively low power but still fast enough to overwhelm the network connection.
External USB3 drive
Next up is a working USB 3.0 prototype hard drive. The chassis is made by Fresco Logic, but no word on what HD was inside the box, or what PC was powering it. The device did work through the demo, and that means silicon is pretty close. This could be a very good thing for everyone sick of waiting for external HDs to move large files.
Mimo USB monitorlet
Last we have a product that uses Displaylink's technology, the Mimo from Nanovision. It is simply a little secondary screen that plugs in via USB. The Mimo is 7 inches diagonal, and has an 800 X 480 resolution, Should you have a netbook without a VGA port and want a little more desktop area, this is the gadget for you. µ
"Should you have a netbook without a VGA port and want a little more desktop area, this is the gadget for you."
Right, why not just buy a notebook in the first place?
Get VGA people. Don't be fooled by those Add In Board shysters.
"The Mimo is 7 inches diagonal, and has an 800 X 480 resolution" Yeah right. Who needs this?
