THE TAIWANESE RUMOUR MILL is at it again, this time with whisperings about chairman and CEO of Micron Technology, Steven Appleton in merger negotiations with its partners down at Nanya Technology and Inotera Memories.

Apparently Appleton visited Taiwan on the down-low last week, where talks also took place amongst high-ranking execs from the three big DRAM makers to hammer out enough integration to win government bailout cash.

Nanya is keeping schtum on the merger matter, noting only that it will unveil its cunning rescue plan once Micron caves in to its demands on technology sharing.

As for the Taiwanese government, it has announced it will not only inject a significant amount of cash into the throbbing veiny arm of the DRAM industry, but will also lobby banks on their behalf and arranging loan extensions. µ
