Texting teen sent 14,528 text messages in a month

Nibble Well grounded

A US TEEN amazed her father by sending 14,528 text messages in December.

Reina Hardesty, 13, sent 500 text messages daily last month, giving her old man a phone bill longer than the Lord of the Rings.

Staggered by the bill, Hardesty's dad had to get his calculator out to work out if it was physically possible to send so many messages, before interrogating his daughter.

She wondered what the hell he was banging on about because she had unlimited texting and it only cost him $30. Otherwise she would have saddled him with a bill for $2900. µ

presumably...

...the vast majority were messages containing simply: "yes", "no", "lol", "wtf", ":)", ":(" ...

But still quite a feat.

Shit

Yeah one every 2 mins is some amount of texting! More than likely to cause RSI if she sent that much. Bet her dad was happy for unlimited texts

NewHeights here, too.

Some Powerful stuff on Desktop, my 4400+X2 got bootUp brain combo & Lavasoft did complete scan, 3 Million 160 thousand files in this bugger (4 HDD) running around right now, thats 10X 2600+ ability. Next Drashek; bringing Hopelessness to Youth, has posted Near 10,000 individual messages in last few years. Wow, My Eyes Are Blinded by Light. Now You smirk or Gasp in winched Pain, yet with 2/3 of my partitions needing removal, mostly due toexpired samples, Do You Really Think Microsoft would Make Product Where You Actually Can Reliably Remove Any Partitions, NO. First two blanks, turned out to be working partitions, & So On. So Its Dog Eat Dog, Universe.

What's The Point?

I have 3 teens that regularly exceed 10 000 per month each, and have had some months in the 17 – 18 000 range. I assume there are others that do more?

I hope her friends have unlimited texting, too

I hope she sent messages only to people with unlimited texting plans.

Receiving SMS in US costs as much as send it!

multiple recipients...

...one message. I have about 300 people in my phone's address book. So I sent 600 text messages combined between the "Merry Christmas!" and "Happy New Year!" texts on the 25th and 31st of December.
br
That's not counting all the received text messages I got back.
br
So if she sent a mass txt to everyone in her address book, and they all texted her back, she realistically only sent half that stated number of text messages. Pedantic I know. :)

Cheers, br

Re: She hardly had time for sex, with all the texting

@Bob
the girl was 13 years old, your point is moot.

Re: Re: She hardly had time for sex, with all the texting

@Niki - yes...because its not possible for a 13 year old girl to have sex, right? My daughter is 14 and 2 of her classmates are 6+ months pregnant.

And I think Bob was being humorous.

I disabled texting on my daughters phone so I dont have that problem...simple. My bigger concern for that much texting is when would she have time for things like school, chores, etc...?

Niki must be naive

Niki must be naive to thing 13 year olds aren't having sex. And they are probably text messaging while doing it. Surprise!

Group Messaging

It doesnt mean she sent message one by one, she would have sent a group message (say 300 people, i have 800 people in my book) then some people/friends would have replied and she though to reply not just them but all group. With in 8-10 such replies she can shatter this 14528 thingy.

Creative Billing

A long SMS may count as more than one "text" on the bill, due to chaining. If we assume that her phone can chain 10 messages together (allowing about 1.5KB of text per message), then that goes down to ten long messages per day. Definitely plausible.

Crazy, but common??

My recent cell-phone aquiring daughter (age 13) tallied 14,389 text messages last month. We've got a unlimited family plan and so far it looks like:

Dad: 67
Mom: 324
Son: 2,315
Daughter: 14,389

My OCD 2 yr old is now stealing mom's IPhone to play games all the time. Wonder what he'll be up to when he's 13?

Wasting valuable time and future

The father should ask her if she can manage to study anything useful for her life, or prepare herself for college such as math, science and literature.
If she is my daughter, she will be in deep shit! Young kids these days wasting so much precious time on stupid thing such as texting and social networking. When they reach adult and no job; the father will be real proud.

Mister

Oh, the bandwidth! I bet it took a whole 1.4MB floppy disk to transfer the text. Seriously though, why is it that so many companies charged more for sending a <1 / 1KB/sec phone conversation that lasts 5 minutes?

Uhm, I bet you can guess!

It's Possible

I have an iPhone, so I don't enjoy such features as group messaging or even forwarding, but I've personally maxed at about 18,000 in a month. Its very surprising, I looked at last months bill and it was over 10,000. I honestly have no idea how that happens, it never seems like that much...
