China Mobile pours $8.6 billion into 3G

CHINA MOBILE has announced that it will spend $8.6 billion dollars this year to develop third-generation networks.

The outfit has given most of the cash to the local Chinese-developed TD-SCDMA standard for 3G, and says it willl build around 60,000 base stations covering 238 cities.

The Government of China finally issued long-anticipated 3G licences last week. µ
