Windows 7 beta direct-download links from Volesoft

It's 10 pm on a Friday night, what do you do?
Saturday, 10 January 2009, 06:09

THE WORLD plus dog or at least the geeky world plus dog has been insanely awaiting Microsoft's super soaraway beta - which means test, buggy - operating system, Windows 7. Here we provide you with direct-download links for your enjoyment.

Microsoft's Windows7.com web page at the time of this writing still displays "Want to try the Beta? Come back the afternoon of January 9". Of course, they mean Redmond, Washington time. And people in Blighty as well everyone east of Redmondia knows well that Californians live in the past - at least, a few hours behind.

There was a download link posted on forums throughout the day pointing to this TechNet URL, but the server got swamped so badly that after a couple hours giving a "Server Too Busy" error message Microsoft seems to have given up and replaced it with a "Windows 7 Beta Comming Soon!" message.

So, to save you the hassle and the suffering, without much further ado and babbling, here we provide you with direct download links from Microsoft's servers of build 7000, what most sources confirm is the public beta release.

The 32-bit release

http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/3/3/633118BD-6C3D-45A4-B985-F0FDFFE1B021/EN/7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULFRE_EN_DVD.iso

The 64-bt release

http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/3/3/633118BD-6C3D-45A4-B985-F0FDFFE1B021/EN/7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULXFRE_EN_DVD.ISO

It's 10 pm London time on a Friday night, and you are stuck in your basement with no friends, what else can you do but participate in this seemingly "voluntary denial-of-service" frenzy to Microsoft's download servers? Sheesh. µ

Link works

Tested the download and this matches the version posted to MSDN on Wednesday (and downloads a lot faster) but without a valid key its no use.
Any clue where your readers can get one of those?

Regarding keys

You get a 30 day "trial", which should be enough time for you to test it and wait for the keys to come in (should come in tomorrow)
To top it off, with a rearm you get up to 120 days.

Valid Windows 7 Key

http://blog.hznet.nl/2009/01/10/how-to-receive-a-valid-windows-7-key has instructions on how to get a valid 32-bit or 64-bit key. I had to refresh the page in question about 10~ times to get one. Use the Firefox extension Check4Change and it will make things much easier.

Virtual Windows 7

If you're having difficulty then just download the Windows 7 virtual machine for VMWare Player. Its about 1 month older a little older (Build 6956)

Don't forget to wipe when you're done!

Because another incompatible 32 bit OS is just what everyone needs.

Does Microsoft plan to copy Linux in number of pointless distros now?

Mine Was 4,500 Mb.

Mr. Hughes has link on ZD & above link works, yet activation seems down till Monday. So burn your iso & see if it will install, this is where mere mortal STeWie breaks down, yet its step by step learning procesas. Probably activation delay is so many Lookie Loos will get hung Up on Install & never need activation numbers anyway. Trial is into Aug ''9, Microsoft usually giving few months extra, meaning next beta or even RTM 7, YEA, may be mid summers DREAM. Now About Hardware....

Broken.

Neither of those links work for me. It prompts me to download a file but it always "completes" after 1.1K is received, using Firefox.

Activation Numbers Now UP Again.

If you tried 10 refreshes on activation number page from helmut link in art, jsut leave it few hours & try again, it works NOW. -=YET=-, After ALL My Pitiance Upon Poor 32 bit, Why'd I order That? also FULL 7 beta still not availble direct from technet/microUltee'. Notice theReG Articles have elavated mucho with calcade of intrests. You can see BIG Green in CELL Phone it.examiner, yet this is Big Big Green, Goldeyed Green ,BTW heres another HOT Item from 'ShowSoonEnough announcements. You can See entire Cloud is about to shimer in Gds Glow. Will SD cards be able to rival hard drives for storage capacity anytime soon? Probably not, but it won't be because of a technical limitation – the next generation of SD cards, dubbed SDXC, have been announced this week. Among other things, the new format for the cards will result in a theoretical size limit of a massive 2TB, 64 times greater than the current 32GB limitation. That's a significant jump, considering that 32GB SDHC cards have been available for only about a year.
The SD association has been working to retain the existing form factor and interface for SD cards, but is pushing the technology forward at a very rapid rate. The SDXC standard will supposedly provide cards that will start at read/write speeds greater than 100MB/sec, and in the future could go as high as 300MB/sec. SD is a very popular format,(Also that Card Might Cost More Than Computer) REMEMBER: GET 7 Beta & Act Number Now, ?Break Your Equipment & Get Ready for Revolution in Computing. 7 adds level of quality upon Vista.

Fixed.

After several attempts trying to download the ISO the official way using both FF and IE (and always being returned to the product-key page), I finally got it to work by viewing the page source code in Firefox and finding the download link that way. It promptly launched the Java-based download manager and commenced download without trouble. Seems a bit shady to me.

Once again...

... the devilishly handsome editors here at the INQ delivers the goods.

I'll soon be running a wonderful x64 official beta for windows 7. Though the x64 bit is all that really matters.

I'm really surprised that there were codes left though, but I suppose it's because the servers were down most of the time.

x64 vs x86

Is there any difference between the two download links? Looks like there is only one installation DVD with both x64 and x86 versions in it and key will determine which one gets installed.

posted by : saintvir, 11 January 2009 Complain about this comment
ooops ...

Scratch that ... the two files ARE different. X64 is 3.3GB vs 2.5GB for the x86 version.

Come on guys.. GET REAL!!

Why do you guys spread so much Anti-Windows FUD ?? Between you and Nick it seems you guys have the answer to everything except that it seems you'll never be happy with anything. Linux, Mac, and Windows are all targets to be picked on; it seems you guys fail to recognize what impact Operating Systems have on the world, except where it's the butt of some negative spin you guys invent.

Fernando- you said "awaiting Microsoft's super soaraway beta - which means test, buggy - operating system, Windows 7." When honestly, I can't describe it as buggy. Yes, it's non-production software and (unlike the Vista Betas) every feature I've tested out works as intended. What holds *desperately* true is good drivers = good experience and I'm lucky enough to have a new Lenovo T61 where all but one piece of hardware has working drivers. No BSODs, no crashes, and I only experience one problem (Aero gets screwy after several suspend/resumes; it's an nVidia driver issue).

Like the Windows 7 Pre Beta, this feels fast, stable, and nearly production quality yet with more feature-complete apps ready. Get your facts straight before writing articles, will you guys? Especially Nick "Windows Me II SP3a" Farrell.

Congratulations, Microsoft engineers!

You can download at high speed the truly excellent Windows 7 Beta? I have already downloaded in less than 60 minutes, like most people with a simple 6 MB connection. No problems with the most difficult drivers, Creative SB X-Fi Driver version 6.0.1.1368 works perfectly (I am listening to Bach Orchestral Suites with a warm and superb sound while I type this brief writing). ATI AGP Graphics Card Radeon X1950 Pro drivers 8.12 works flawlessly and I have decided not to update via the optional newest driver offered by Windows Update : "ATI Technologies Inc. driver update for Radeon X1950 Series (Prerelease - WDDM 1.0)Download size: 5,2 MB. You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect. Update type: Optional. This driver was provided by ATI Technologies Inc. for support of Radeon X1950 Series (Prerelease - WDDM 1.0)". Great people those working for ATI, but unnecessary divers in my opinion with such a good 8.12 version. In short: everything in the Device Manager is entirely perfect. I have used an old dual motherboard with 2 Intel Pentium III (YES, three) Tualatin 1400Mhz. Slow?, no, absolutely not. Congratulations again, Microsoft. Thanks a lot for my legal Evaluation Copy expiring 02/07/2009. This date and the superb Beta? indicates that it is a first Release to Manufacturing, not a beta.

Activation

Has anybody tried it with their fingerprint scanner on during product activation? Does it really transmit your biometric markers so the coppers can come and get you if you fuck with your license?

You are missing something...

You guys talking about how good this beta is are forgetting that this is basically SP2 for Vista... it's not like they started fresh, they are just implementing some new features on top of the old vista OS and changing some layouts/GUIs. I mean how hard is that really to do when you have such a huge development team and test team?

Only gets to 63%

Anyone else had a problem downloading? I get to 63% and it starts copying with an incomplete file of only 1.99Gb. Also tried links for keys and get a 'sorry, page cannot be found error'. I give up!
