A second Android phone tips up

CES 2009 This one is unlocked

THERE'S NOW a second Android phone on the market, and this one is from an unlikely source, FIC. Yeah, OpenMoko Freerunner has Android up and running without being locked.

Andriod_freerunner

If you recall, the OpenMoko Freerunner is a totally open phone. It gives you everything it is legally allowed to, and document it all. Want the hardware schematics as well as the source code? You got it. And people did get it, and are doing things like porting Android.

So, if you want that OS to tinker with, buy one of these phones, and you got it. No lockdowns, no forced jailbreaks, just a real phone you can play with until you get bored. It may take some tinkering, but that is the point, right? What more can you ask for? µ

No EDGE!

Android without even EDGE? Why are they even bothering, that's useless.

No problem :-)

EDGE seems to be planned for next release.

By the way, I applaud them for "bothering", I don't need data transfers other than Wi-Fi. Data inclusion in common mobile plans are just a way to rob most of the people who don't use data often, or not at all.
