AUTODESK'S CAROL BARTZ has been named and shamed as the next drinker at the poisoned chalice that is the CEO of Yahoo.
Deep throats within Yahoo have spilt the beans to the Wall Street Journal which say that she is definitely on the short list.
Bartz might be the backup candidate. Former Vodafone Group Chief Executive Arun Sarin was being considered but he has since withdrawn his name.
The board has yet to make an offer and is unlikely to before next week, said people close to the company. Yahoo needs to announce a new supremo before it reports fourth-quarter earnings at the end of the month.
If it announces what will be a dismal result with no one appearing to offer a way out for the company share prices will fall even lower.
Bartz, 60, has run a public company over someone with Internet and online advertising experience. What she is lacking is consumer product experience, which analysts and investors argue Yahoo needs to better compete with Google. She has links to both Sun and Intel. µ
