Toshiba sticks Cell processor into TV
TOSHIBA says that it wants to stick a Cell processor under the bonnet of the idiot box to turn it into the "future of TV." The outfit was revealing its cunning plans for 2009 at the annual Consumer Electronics Show.
Scott Ramirez, vice president for marketing at Toshiba America, said that the Cell TV is way beyond anything that's used in a television. In fact it is more of a set-top box with a 55-inch LED panel for the screen.
He said that Cell TV could record six high-definition signals at once, if you were so minded, and it could interact with the Internet.
It didnt matter what contact you had, the Cell Telly could access it, he claimed. Well it couldn't deal with a book, but really no one reads in the US days.
Tosh has had to come up with ideas to use the Cell which it developed with Sony and IBM and first used in Sony's PlayStation 3 game console.
Tosh didnt say how much the Cell TV will cost. µ
