Twisted sister cables come to town

CES 2009 Wrapped around your finger
Wednesday, 7 January 2009, 18:42

THERE ARE the scars, the recriminations, and the simple horror of incorrect lengths of cables dangling in our lives.

At CES Unveiled, Flexicord has solved the problem by stiffening cables so that they can be wrapped around something to remove clutter, errant feet magnetism and other travails of modern geek living.

Flexicord's trick is to stiffen the cable so that it can be literally folded, bent, wrapped, or otherwise get the hell out of the way when connecting items together. It seems like a stunningly simple solution to the morass of idiotic cable clutter. And it is.

Cables

The rubbery stiff coating on their cables adds armour, and additionally allows them to be bent out of harm's way easily, so easily in fact that even civilians will understand the appeal.

We saw HDMI, USB, and raw speaker wire-ish cables on display, all coiled and looking properly stuffed away. We were heartened. µ

Bad for signal transmission?

Isn't uning "coiled wire" bad for the signal?

As in would not the Impedance (as in Ohms) be affected?

I remember something about induction also but I think that is only for power tramsmission not so much as with low voltage signals.

I also has think coiled wire is more prone to rfi/emi interference than straight wire?

I might just be crazy though beacuse at this moment I'm useing a set of headphones that have a coiled lead...

shielding

The cables are probably shielded.

Inside Edge Takes All Current.

Wire that is curved has molecules on inside of curve closer together, or compacted, when wire was curled. Therefore most of power flows upon that inside edge. Think might be called curilian effect. Differnce isn't much, yet even small differences in resistance make big change in power seeking path of least resistance. mostly curl gets long wires out of way.
Also, Sell curly Wires to People With Curly Hair? yes, yes. Drashek Designer Statement: Never Sell Green Wires to people With RED Hair.
