AMD'S PLAN to spin-off its chip manufacturing activities with the help of Abu Dhabi dollars has received an official rubber stamp from the US government.

AMD said the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), raised no objections to its proposal that it and the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) create The Foundry Company to make chips together.

The Foundry Company will be based in the U.S. and run AMD's manufacturing plant in Dresden from there.

Reactions from New York State, where AMD and now the Foundry Company intends to build a new chip fab are upbeat.

Abu Dhabi-backed ATIC will own 65.8 per cent of The Foundry Company with AMD clinging on to 34.2 per cent. µ
