Ballmer elevates Muglia

Servers more important
Tue Jan 06 2009, 11:11

THE SHY and retiring CEO of Microsoft, Steve 'There is a kind of hush' Ballmer, has promoted Server and Tools unit head Bob Muglia to president.

Muglia will keep his current job, it just mean that Steve thinks that the Server division is a lot more important at Vole these days.

Muglia will share the title with entertainment boss Robbie Bach and business software chief Stephen Elop.

The server unit made about $13 billion of Volish revenues last year and makes up about a fifth of all sales.

In an email to staff, Steve said that great people who combine talent, drive, vision, customer focus, and leadership should always get a leg up. Steve said that in Vole there were few people who embody these qualities more fully than Bob Muglia.

According to the Wall Street Journal the email is a bit of a comeback for Muglia who was shifted sideways at one point. µ
