Coppers go virtual

COPPERS DOWN UNDER are apparently too scared to shoot real people and want to practice in a virtual world.

New South Wales coppers have called for tenders for a $2 million virtual reality shooting range.

Top cops say the lack of access to shooting ranges has resulted in some younger officers receiving so little practice that they are scared of using their guns.

One senior cop told the The Sydney Morning Herald that he had a lot of young cops who are scared of guns. There is also a shortage of good places to train.

Goulburn police Academy only has six lanes and Aussie cops have to go to private shooting ranges to practice.

Ironically, most of the controversy that has been hitting the NSW cops lately is that younger officers have a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later,

Recently there was the case of Susan Bandera in Sydney who was shot by a 35-year-old female constable who has been in the force for two years.

NSW wants to have virtual ranges with replica guns, complete with recoil, being "shot" at scenarios on a video screen, via wireless technology.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said that the use of a weapons simulator allows NSW Police to train students more frequently in a more efficient and technologically advanced manner. µ
