Chinese hackers to face up to seven years in jail

Unless you work for the government
Wednesday, 24 December 2008, 09:36

THE GLORIOUS People's Republic of China is cracking down on hackers making penalties a lot tougher.

New laws mean that hackers could face up to seven years in jail, according to those unbiased watchdogs of the People, the State media.

If you give a hacker software or tools for nicking data you could also get a similar sentence.

If the new law gets through the legislators on the standing committee of the National People's Congress, it will be the first legal stick used to crack down on increasing data theft from non-official computers in China.

The current law only allows punishment for hacking into government, defence or science computers. Private companies are fair game, which has made corporate spying an art form.

The online gaming industry is a big target with more than 20,000 online gaming accounts with a market value of around $29,200 US dollars having been nicked in one Chinese province alone.

Of course it also discourages Chinese hackers from looking behind the bamboo curtain for targets.  A chink in the law will mean the hackers will be free to carry out attacks on other countries. µ

All hackers should go to prison

All hackers and many hacks should go to prison for thier crimes against society. They are just bums. Give them a nice stay in the Iron Bar hotel for 5-10 years to get their act together.

USA is worse

Fact, the USA has more people in jail per capita than any other country in the world! Not bragging just bewildered at the so called free country I live in. Last year there was a story of a guy who got life in prison for just spitting on a cop. I'm not kidding, The USA is overrun buy lawyers and lawsuits along with zealot cops who will fill you full of holes and think twice as they enjoy their paid vacation afterwords while they wait for the public outcry to subside.
Can you say Police State, I sure can, I live in one where they threaten us on a DVD movie before we can watch it. Lawyers run adverts on TV asking asking for lawsuit business. They (the FEDS) run adverts on TV threatening to arrest us if we don't obey, yup the movie 1984 is slowly coming to light.
