GTX 295 unleashed today

Daily Rounduppery Pre-emptive strike
Thursday, 18 December 2008, 22:00

YESTERDAY'S LEAK of some GTX 295 benchmarks has led to a flurry of previews on-line. Although the official disclosure date was January 8th, since numbers have now been made public, reviewers can go on to publish the leaked benchmarks - generally on the well-known games - but still refrain from writing full-blown articles.

Reviewers are talking up the $499 price tag that this card will sport on January 8th, which might appeal to enthusiasts with their shiny new Core i7 rigs. So, let us not impede your passage to the world of the very green, very speedy, GTX 295:

PC Perps

Tom's Hardware

Toshiba's ultra-svelte Portégé R600-108 has made it to the capable hands of Trusted Reviews. The diminutive 12.1-inch lap warmer might be light in the bag, but it's heavy on the wallet - you pay for the small size, integrated HSDPA and speedy 128GB Tosh SSD. Get it right here.

TweakTown dedicated the last 24 hours to some original cooling solutions from CoolIT and ThermalTake. First off there's a $80 CoolIT Domino Liquid Cooling System (you read right). This piece of kit comes pre-assembled so you need only plug the waterblock over the CPU socket.

The second article, a preview, covers the new Phase Change cooling kit from ThermalTake. It's called the Xpressar and it's a prototype phase change cooling unit inside a Xaser IV case. Initial testing shows some kinks need to get worked out, but by the time we get to CES, it's likely to reach retail.

Benchmark Reviews tested the same Sapphire single-slot HD 4870 X2 we saw on yesterday's wibble. The Sapphire Atomic X2 lets you game in the very high-end with minimal concern for noise and heat. It's very expensive, true, but enthusiasts usually manage to scrounge the extra C-bills for the card. Get it here.

Finally, XS Reviews got its hands on (literally) a NZXT Avatar gaming mouse. The sleek black mouse is covered in semi-rigid rubber for added grip, sports a 2600 DPI laser and has 4 sensitivity settings (good for sniping). XS thinks it's great, but we have to say it looks slightly expensive (£55). Get it here. µ

What product launch?

Can I buy this 295 now my dear green fanboys? So this is a paper launch if anything nothing more. So by time this comes out in mid January it means around 30 to 60 days later we will see the 4900 series and the RV775 to compete. So this card is a joke and it sounds like a room heater with a higher electric bill to boot. I'll pass on it. And this paper launch is a clear act of desperation. So green and red boys if your willing to wait 30 days for this paper to launch why not wait another 30 to see what is going to compete? We already know RV775 is coming just after this paper is launched and the blowers for this heater burns up your house and shuts down the nuclear reactors. Again why not wait and see whats around the corner to be fair to AMD that is. Lets talk about paper vs. paper. Let the flames begin...lol.

It's not a paper launch. It's not a launch. Put it back in your pants. Kneejerk fanboi snippiness is getting a little old.
