HERE AT THE INQUIRER we aren't ones to say "we told you so", except, in this case, after former Nvidia partner XFX has finally admitted it is defecting to AMD. Something we said months ago, and which Nvidia vehemently denied.
XFX has been manufacturing Nvidia-based graphics cards and motherboards for yonks, but as we reported back in July, has now confirmed it will no longer be remaining monogamous, becoming an official AMD technology partner. This means the firm will now also be flogging AMD Radeon HD 4000 series graphics cards... not good news for the Green Goblin.
As if that wasn't enough, XFX is adding salt to the wound by producing motherboards with Intel chipsets, too. XFX wasn't the first to go, either. Gainward abandoned ship back in June.
When we asked the Green Goblin to confirm the rumours on several occasions, company spinners denied it until quite blue in the face.
It just goes to show, all Inq stories come true in the end, It's just a matter of time.
Just don't mention Google buying Valve. µ

It's hardly a "defection" if they're still producing nVidia-based product as well.
XFX ATI cards will be just as crap as there Nvidia ones.
The Inquirer staff thinks pretty highly of themsleves even when they regularly post a bunch of tripe. You really should get a life and provid some useful information on your site.
Yeah they should be proud. They're doing a great job.
'Like Gainward before them, two of the largest ones, XFX and EVGA have defected. Want to bet Nvidia doesn't know yet? In any case, partners leaving a company like rats leaving a sinking ship is never a good sign, lets see what happens in the coming months when the pain really piles on at NV.
The really interesting part is who they defected to, and it isn't ATI. Paperwork has been signed though, and it is a done deal.'
IT ISN'T ATI, you said. Implying that they had already signed up to sell Larrabee parts. Or maybe VIA Chrome, haha.
I guess your copout is that you 'really meant AMD', which is tiresome and not funny in the slightest.
Also, where's EVGA's 'defection' then?
Shoot x amount of shots in the dark and at some point you're bound to hit.. something.
more like dual citizenship than a defection
Hahaha...your baseless article back then said that EVGA and XFX were defecting, and it was specifically mentioned that "it was not to ATI". You guys forget your own article? You may edit and cut it as you want but at forums around the net the initial article still exists and. You dumbfugs.
Wednessday is Party AfterNoon,in Washington, &Today My Right Hand can Push clicker & Roll Roller, Yet My Left Hand is used to Hold right & guide Mouse about. My Swollen Eyes Can Go Screen Coordinate, Yet World Coordinate System? Bump, Owwww, Much Like these poor players, have to work together because factory won't. Maybe Nvidia Has paralized right arm that won't move So AMD Must step in, Finally & make acceptable Vista Ultimate Card for them, its 3X redundcy that helps get job done. been dipping into the dark side collection 'av ya?
"You really should get a life and provide some useful information on your site."
Wow! just wow!
The Inq's staff is just doing it job at speculating and reporting. And a fine job they're doing. Yet, they need to get a life?
You sir on the other hand, is contributing nothing. Yet, here you are, reading the very same things they're reporting, and complaining. I wonder who really needs a life here.
as brythe said http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/318/1040318/two-nvidia-partners-defect
which says 'The really interesting part is who they defected to, AND IT ISN'T ATI'
well done. smug mugs
That's what I like about you Inquirer - you're the IT version of The Sun.
Perhaps you people missed the line "XFX is adding salt to the wound by producing motherboards with Intel chipsets, too."
The INQ never said that XFX is defecting from Nvidia's 'Graphic' cards, nor did they claimed that the defect to list is exhaustive.
Intel is on the list too.(!!!)
Learn to read you nitwits.
Sheesh. The INQ is never known for its 'accuracy', but the excuses you guys threw out is just pathetic.
nice try, but the article starts confirming that XFX have defected to.....AMD. which is a sneaky way of saying they are making ATI graphics. the latter section does mention intel, but the older article clearly points to XFX NOT defecting to ATI. it doesnt distinguish between chipsets and graphics, it just definitively states not ATI. so why are the making ATI cards? the inquirer not accurate? you got that right, the statement was badly worded then, because XFX have quite clearly started making ATI graphics.....
"Something we said months ago, and which Nvidia vehemently denied." Yeah, because as you can tell XFX didn't "jump ship", they added more products.
You even say in this poor excuse for an article "XFX has now confirmed it will no longer be remaining monogamous"
Which certainly goes against the "jumping ship" claim.
"When we asked the Green Goblin to confirm the rumours on several occasions, company spinners denied it until quite blue in the face."
About what, XFX jumping ship? They denied it becuase...........XFX didn't.
Keep up the 10% factual 90% BS articles.
i <3 inq.
they called the AMD/ATI acquisition a week before it happened.
so bugger off all you h8ers.
listening to chatter and filtering for us, either way the inq know something is going on. Its like a hurricane, you dont point fingers at the weatherman when he says its going to florida then lands some where else. The point is that there was a warning, and someone was listening.
I don't get it - you write an article patting yourselves on the back for getting it wrong? They're still making Nvidia cards, so they've clearly not defected.
{quote} Just don't mention Google buying Valve. µ {/quote}
Whats this ?
I heard otherwise... AMD acquires inquirer.µ
Don't confuse the hacks at The Inkwell with facts - it's too challenging for them. They use selective memory to satiate their ego.
A lot of commenters are obviously out of the loop and don't understand why any of this is interesting in the first place. Companies like XFX are prestige brands that carry a lot of weight in the enthusiast community. Last time I checked, most prestige brands only sold Nvidia products and exclusivity is kind of a big deal (mostly to Nvidia). Defection translates to the loss of a halo effect, not the loss of a partner.
