Single slot HD 4870 X2 makes an appearance

Daily Wibble Sapphire Atomic does it again
Thursday, 18 December 2008, 01:45

LATELY, WE'VE BEEN quite disappointed with the lack of ingenuity in graphics cooling, especially in the big card department. Sapphire, however, outdid itself with an Atomic-series HD 4870 X2, which you can find tested at OCC. Sapphire went liquid cooling with this, and the great part about it us that the card now only takes up a single bracket/slot. Yes. Single slot HD 4870 X2.

Tweak News is reviewing a connoiseur kit, the NH-C12P CPU cooler from Noctua. The cooler towers over the CPU, but leaves plenty of space in the adjoining areas for power regulation and RAM. It also does a more than decent and quiet job at cooling your CPU. It's one of those products that reeks of quality... Joe loved it to bits.

Trust the Linux crowd to find the oddest bit of hardware out there. Michael at Phoronix is bench-testing the Jetway NC92 Atom IPC motherboard. This board is mini-ITX format and measures just 17x17cm. The integrated Atom suffices for Linux, and the 2GB DDR2 don't hurt it either. Save for a little LM_Sensors issue, it was more than worth the $80 price. Quite the bargain.

Sanjin at Fudzilla showed up with a PowerColor HD 4870 LCS (liquid cooling system) card. The LCS keeps the card's profile down to a single slot, while the added cooling power let Sanjin go up to 850MHz/1050MHz making it the fastest (and quietest) HD 4870 around. 338 €urobucks will get you one, if you have deep enough pockets. Get it here.

Dragon Steel Mods hasn't featured much on the Wibble, but they tested something we found to be worth a post here: the Xclio 1000 PC case. Reminiscent of the HAF932 case concept, the Xclio is all about air flow and cooling. Six massive LED-lit fans suck air in the front and side of the case, and each one has three colour settings, individually controlled, so if you're the modder-type, this one's for you.

Techware Labs is also on the PC case scene with the Tagan El Diablo Advance. It's another "jet turbine" design case with a ludicrous amount of fans to keep everything cool, and the best part is the case costs just $99. Crap cable management will give you a migraine, but if you've got the patience, it's a great buy.

TBreak in the UAE is testing two high-capacity HDDs, the 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 and the WD Caviar Black 1TB drive. Both drives offer great storage at a relatively cheap price, and either one will end up a good purchase. Pair either one up with a Raptor and you have a great combination. Read it here. µ
