Yahoo cuts data retention time

Three months the lowest yet
Wednesday, 17 December 2008, 12:38

IN ORDER TO COMPETE with the good will of Google, Yahoo has decided it must cut the time it holds personal data collected from user web surfing.

The search company announced today that it will be cutting this time from 13 months to just three. This will go up to six months if there are any security issues such as evidence of fraud.

This sly move from Yahoo makes them top in the board of time as they now lead with their three months.

In recent times protection officials have been putting Internet search companies under pressure in order to protect the privacy of users.

According to Ari Schwartz, vice president at the Center for Democracy and Technology, Yahoo’s pledge, "is more significant because they are getting rid of some data after 90 days and they actually have an implementation plan to get this done.”

The European Union has also said that companies should make an effort to not hold users information for longer than six months – to cover their own backs if nothing else. µ

Who Cares...

only about 3% of surfers (and that is a liberal estimation) probably even care about this. So in the end, Yahoo is YaScrewing themselves by giving themselves less time to analyze trends thereby making their market intelligence less accurate than goog's or ms's.... unless they've found a way to store or analyze better/faster

Why Microsoft Wants Yahoo.

Heeesh:Palladium (mythology), in Greek mythology, statue of the goddess Athena holding a shield and a spear. It was believed to have been hurled from Olympus by the god Zeus at the founding of Troy. The safety of a city was believed to depend on the careful preservation of the image in the sanctuary of the goddess. I
thatss Bit o' tin on Americas Old West: OK Why Microsoft wants Yahoo is On Taking Search Engine is REally Very Expensive business, All Engines are About Same & one more convergence in addresses. By Microsoft taking over, public can be Wow'd into purchases, cut biographies & ?BAD or Soft Luck, Easier than Yahoo, Whos' Small, passing off expenses, like
video service Now as Well & Microsoft can at No Extra Expense, cut Data base, Cut Transmission Cost & Cut Publics wallet Out, Invisibly, from BackPocket Position. Yahoo, can let go of bunch of High Cost Stuff (Including Ultee'_TIM) & expand invisibly, by trading monies about, jacking stock quote & do little else, except YAHOO strips itself. Its' FAST Gun for hire.....Drashek "less is More for less"
