AT&T flogs used Iphones
US TELCO AT&T started selling refurbished Apple 3G Iphones on its website on Tuesday.
The über-cool fruity toymaker's mobile service partner is offering the pre-owned 8GB and 16GB Iphone 3G gadgets for $150 and $250, respectively – a $50 discount from new prices – with AT&T's usual two-year service contract required, naturally.
Why anyone would actually want to buy a used Iphone 3G escapes us. At $50 off the price for a new one, a person isn't saving much over the two-year commitment to AT&T, during which they will pay about $2,000 for Apple's smartphone plus cellular service, give or take a few hundred bucks.
AT&T must have noticed it has a lot of used Iphones laying around to set up such an offer.
We're just speculating, of course, but will conjecture that AT&T might be taking back shedloads of Iphones in exchange for letting punters get out of their cellular service contracts without having to stump up the early termination fees.
That makes sense to us, seeing as how a lot of people have been laid off in the recession this year, especially recently. When folks lose their jobs, they look to cut back on expenses.
And Iphones – or rather AT&T's pricey service contracts – are quite expensive. Compared to paying full price for a standard cellphone with a monthly pay-as-you-go service plan from a discount mobile service reseller, buying an Iphone 3G along with AT&T's required two-year service contract costs anywhere from nearly $1,000 to over $1,500 more over the life of the contract, depending on service plan details.
Without incomes, people might be deciding that they don't really need to pay $70 to $90 per month, or more, just to keep a mobile phone, especially when discount mobile service prices start at about $25 per month.
Besides, much of the pleasure to be had by indulging oneself with an Apple Jesus-phone is in untethering it from its beautifully-designed packaging and bathing in the reflected glory of its awesomely flawless perfection. µ

on the other hand maybe they've found shedloads of broken shiny toys that have been replaced and breathed a new lease of life into um gave um a polish and away we go, St. steve would be soooooooooooo proud of um, bejaysus resurection, another miracle by the jesus phone, woooooot !!!!!
