PS3 is a sinking ship

Console round-up Playstation Home launched, swamped
Mon Dec 15 2008, 09:37

THE LEGO CONSOLE wars have started, and in the first round we have the NES vs the PSX, both beautifully crafted from glorious Lego.

Xbox 360
The 360 has a rather large attach rate of 8.1, according to Gamesindustry.biz.

When not busy building Xbox 360 laptops, Ben Heck is ripping apart new Jasper-based consoles, and telling you how to get one.

Or you could add a Seven-inch screen (again).

PS3/PSP
CNN Money's Silicon Alley Insider column, via 1up.com, in an analysis of PS3 sales numbers, has called the console a "sinking ship".

Sales of the PS3 year-on-year have declined 19 per cent, while every other console seems to be doing rather good things for its associated manufacturer.

The Playstation Home beta was launched for all and sundry to play with last week, and Eurogamer has a rather damning review.

The INQ couldn't get in all weekend.

Don't expect to play it on a PSP2 either - SCEE boss David Reeves, has said that Sony is not currently planning a PSP2.

Wii/DS
800,000 Wiis were sold during the US Thanksgiving festivities, crushing all other competition.

If you can't find a balance board this holiday season, check out the Ghetto Balance Board.

Alternatively you could create your own drum set. µ

Its an irrelevant argument!

The Wii is a distraction for when you've got a few mates over, the 360 is a gaming console and the PS3 is a hybrid media machine. It is pointless to compare them becuase they fulfill different roles. I wanted a bluray player, something I would surf the web on and something reliable so I bought a PS3. It also does a good job of gaming but I'd still like to have a 360 too. As for price, based on what it offers the PS3 is vastly better value. Don't come out with that "I don't want bluray because my television is built like a fucking fishtank" nonsense. If you're playing hi-def games get a bloody hi-def screen you knob-jockies!

RE: ps3 sales

"The PS3 is overpriced"

Not really, Xbox360 @ $199.00 doesn't include all of the needed/wanted features of the PS3. If we take try to make the $199 xbox have the same features the ps3 has we would be spending just as much or more than a ps3 and still getting less.

Lets break it down:

No hard drive, no network adapter, (I personally can't stand a long cable running through the middle of my carpet and tile) no blu-ray and you have to pay for online. If we add all that together the $199 xbox360 is now $199 + $150 + $100 + $59.99 (recurring annually according to MS Xbox website) for a total of $510.00 and you STILL lack a web browser, blu-ray player and have a good chance of getting RRoD.

So which one is cheaper now?

"ts games, simply put, are not as good."

What proof do you have of that? I know I have proof that the Xbox360 hardly had any exclusive or worthwhile titles through out all of 2008, except maybe GoW2 and even then look at all the problems that game has. (link below)

The PS3 got a bunch of exclusive titles in 08 and now in 09 its looking to be even more active.

"WII comes in first as most fun."

The amount of dust collecting Wii consoles is a better example of the lack of "fun" the Wii has. Even its most loyal fan base is turning on Nintendo since Nintendo decided to brush them aside and provide shovelware more than anything else.

"The 360 has the best serious games."

Again, how so? a lack of exclusive or quality titles makes you the "best" for serious games?

"then there is the PS3 which... errmm.. plays bluray... oh and some games too."

This just screams 2006 and some of 2007, get with the times... PS3 is no longer the machine that just plays Bluray. I bought the Xbox360 at 12am when it launched and the Wii I had it mailed to me as soon as it was availible and the PS3 I bought a couple weeks after it was released. At first I didn't use the PS3 much, the online gaming was nice, the web browser wasn't working too good at the time and the PSN had a pretty cheap feeling menu.

Once 2007 hit a lot of changes kept rolling, more exclusive games were showing up, there was plans to change PSN UI, online only games were being released, something Microsoft has yet to do with Xbox Live and they had their service around longer, the web browser was being updated.

In 2008 the machine saw a host of exclusive titles, web browser received flash player support so you can watch sites like hulu.com & youtube.com right from your living room off a console that also plays great exclusive games and bluray.

Now in 09 the PS3 is looking to get a great line of exclusive titles as opposed to the Xbox360 that sits on my shelf waiting for RRoD to strike again and no games to look forward to.

Some ppl need to get past 06-07.

ps3 sales

Yes I agree about copying games, but there is more to it than that:

The PS3 is overpriced
Its games, simply put, are not as good.

I've got all three, the WII comes in first as most fun.

The 360 has the best serious games.

Then there is the PS3 which... errmm.. plays bluray... oh and some games too.

Obviously PS3 will never sell well...

Because it's much harder to pirate its games.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
