AMD HAS DENIED whisperings about its spin-off manufacturing arm, the newly founded Foundry Co., poking about behind the bamboo curtain and seeking to set up new chip fabs in China.
Rumours had been rife since the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between AMD and the Chinese Shandong government earlier this year linked to cooperation on chip development, technology exchange and education.
Further fuel was added to the conjectural flames after rumours cropped up claiming execs from Daamit FC had recently gone to Shandong looking to poach new local partners, cooperate with local players for foundry services or even build its own fab in the Middle Kingdom.
But according to AMD, it's lies, all lies. Or at least all unsubstantiated conjecture.
The Foundry Co's Head of Communications told the INQUIRER "Our focus at The Foundry Company (after we close the transaction) will be on completing our 300mm expansion in Dresden and breaking ground on our new facility in Upstate NY".
He added that the Chinese whispers we put to him were simply that; whispers, consisting of nothing but "rumor and speculation". µ
Since Chip Machine is Huge iron behemouth, with small opeing that has standard curtain timer, maybe only difference between higher NM chip & smaller, is simply size of hole in camera face that lets shrunken light thru, with new lens board setting.
Too big would allow stray light to blurr image & of course too small would cut off image if used small NM for larger size.
No big Hockie, just reset lens board to shrink image(Although probably Not Movable is incorporated in todays machines) & smaller hole to let image thru. PatPend,TM Ultee'Tom

AMD said the whispers were "rumor and speclation"... well of course they are, as AMD has not publicly stated anything about it.
But did they say that it was NOT TRUE?
"But according to AMD, it's lies, all lies. Or at least all unsubstantiated conjecture." Again, of course its unsubstantiated (which is why you went to AMD for comment). DID THEY ACTUALLY DENY THIS OR ARE YOU MISREADING AMD's carefully worded response? I think there may be something to this "rumor", at least the exploration of the idea and AMD may be afraid of the PR aspect of it after the handout they just got in NY,
