One-in-five teens has 'tech sex'
ONE IN FIVE US teens has sent nude or partially-clothed images of themselves to someone by email or mobile phone, according to a new survey.
The survey commissioned by pressure group the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy (NCTUP) claims that North American youngsters aged 13 to 19 are having tech-sex despite a majority of them believing it can have "serious negative consequences".
More than half of the 1280 teens and young adults up to age 26 who took part in the online poll said they had received a sexually suggestive message from someone else and one in five said they had shared the racy message with another.
More than 80 per cent said they would be concerned about sending a sexy image of themselves or racy message because they "might regret it later," and 70 per cent said they were worried it could "disappoint family."
What worries the NCTUP is that a third of teens think that sending such messages makes a real shag more likely.
Real shagging worries outfits like the NCTUP a lot because it thinks this leads to high rates of teen and unplanned pregnancy.
However there is a slight flaw in this reasoning. Teen pregnancy and birth rates in the United States have dropped by one-third since the 1990s, since technology came onto the scene. If you expect that all these saucy emails and naked pictures would result in a boost in teen pregnancies, they haven't.
NCPTUP's answer to that is that teen pregnancy in the US is higher compared to other developed countries. But this might be because of the higher age of consent and the lack of sex education in some regions in the US. Kids that have access to technology might be a wee bit better informed about contraception. µ

I'm sure some of you are going to say,"OMG, not that stupid Christian again," but here's my take.
Many of the people that are vocal about this are Christians worried about lust. They think having sex outside of marriage, or even thinking about it qualifies as lust. As with the word sodomy, I think most have fallen under the umbrella of people who have added meaning to the Bible, which is where a lot of misery comes from.(adding things to the Bible causes misery, not the Bible itself :p ;) )
My opinion(key word here) is that it only counts as lust if you're thinking about your own pleasure more than the other person's. If you're more about the other person's pleasure than your own, or want the pleasure for yourself just as much as you want it for the other person, then in my mind your safe from the judgement of God in that particular instance.

Geez... if anything, things are better today then they ever have been. Just look at teen pregnancy stats.
And there was a time when teen pregnancy was THE NORM.
There are obviously some people in high places that have a very unhealthy and negative attitude towards sex and growing up.

Very misleading. Let us take each paragraph...
Partially nude... In other words a swim suit photo.
The survey is pretty small at 1280 teens. The other is that 18 and 19 year olds are legal adults... and those legal adults make up 29% of the survey.
Then they expand the group to 26 year olds, which means only 36% were minors. Also sexually suggestive message could be a dirty joke. Pretty lame really.
Then it goes on to say that 80% are actually responsible kids. Considering 29% are adults, that is pretty good.
Having 1/2 think sending dirty stuff might get them laid is no big deal. That means they think it but do not do it and considering 1/2 are males, I think that number is probably higher.
Higher teen pregnancy... maybe they should promote cybersex :p
This next paragraph is the only valid one, pointing out that the study is flawed as teen pregnancy has dropped in the last 10-15 years, not gone up as technology grew.
The NCPTUP's responce to this is just lame. Saying the US's teen pregnancy is worse than 'other' developed countries is pretty vague. They could be only comparing us to countries were the Abortion pills are legal. What really is a developed country? I know things are a lot worse in some.
So to put it bluntly... they needed to survey only minors, separate the questions into finer categories, like fully nude pictures, cyber-sex, and whether they have met someone online and hooked up with them for sex. Maybe they should include numbers like how many of these kids have already had sex (not relating to technology).
I should probably get a camera phone, been missing out on all the fun.
