HP aims at budget cutting IT deparments

Software for penny pinching

EXPENSIVE INK FLOGGER HP has launched software aimed at helping businesses with tight budgets squeeze more out of their computing expenses.

HP's Business Technology Optimisation (BTO) software comes with a package of interest-free financing as the company tries to find ways into budget strapped IT departments.

Silicon Valley based HP said that its technology optimisation package helps businesses focus resources effectively on promising projects in hard times.

Mark Sarbiewski, senior director of products in HP's Software and Solutions unit said the software offers a way for organisations to transform themselves by making sure that IT spending goes where it is needed.

Of course we guess that the software will recommend that the kit has an HP label on the box, but that is another matter.

HP's optimisation package includes enhanced Quality Centre and Universal Configuration Management Database (UCMD) software that provides IT managers signposts for cutting costs while getting more out of their data centres.

The company claims that UCMB predicts problems with software and lets businesses avoid woes such as automated bank teller machines crashing or online services stalling.

HP BTO vice president Ronnen Armon said that as the bottom drops out of the economy, IT deparments are going to have to become more predictive and a lot less like firefighters.

We have found that spraying water into a server room is never a good idea as well. µ
