EA and 2K add PhysX

NVidia opens the champers
Tuesday, 9 December 2008, 08:35

TROUBLED GRAPHICS OUTFIT NVidia has something to celebrate at last.

Top game makers Electronic Arts and 2K Games have announced they will use Nvidia's PhysX technology.

PhysX will appear in EA's Mirror's Edge, in which a courier has to outrun armed troops under the command of an oppressive government. Quite why a Postman Pat style game needs PhysX is not clear, particularly when his cat is black and white anyway.

The game has come out on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles and will be released in January for PCs. Those who have seen the PhysX version say it shows improved image processing, in which shattering windows spray glass shards, banners flutter, fabric tears and bullets hit walls more realistically. We guess the post van looks better too.

An Nvidia GeForce spokesman said that everything was fully destructible, and he was not just talking about chips for a change.

He said that the next big thing was realism. "You really feel the world is alive." If you can call it living.

PhysX uses combined graphics and computer processing. It is supposed to make scenes 10 to 20 times more visually complex than possible on single purpose processors.

2K Games said that it was very impressed with the quality of the PhysX engine and licensed it so its studios can use this solution early in development. µ

Much Ado About Not Too Much

I watched the canned demo here:

It seemed like the Non PhysX comparisons were deliberately castrated to enhance the look of the PhysX enable versions.
Ya, some cool stuff, but, a big deal?

Priceless

"An Nvidia GeForce spokesman said that everything was fully destructible, and he was not just talking about chips for a change."

LOL that comment right there is PIRCELESS! 1 more reason to love INQ!

On the other hand...EA & 2K better get that DRM crap off their games.
2K with the crap in GTA IV & EA having DRM in virtually all their games now.

If they intentionally want to shaft the people who pay for games to hell with them.

I don't care how good a game is or how good a score it gets hell even 11/10!

I ain't buying crap which will restricts me in anyway.

Yeah you can say same-thing about Windows right now BUT that's the OS games are applications, get it!
