When [Otellini] joined the company in 1974, most people didn't even know what a PC was - From the Wall St Journal 11-11-2004
INTEL HAS JOINED forces with EMC to build NAS kit. The companies have produced the Intel SS4200-E PC-based NAS system that’s on test at Tom’s Hardware today. Looks quite original, and performance, says Marcel, is very good. It’s missing a few high-end features – and draws quite a lot of power. Give it a look, here.
Tech Gage has the Gigabyte EG45M-DS2H on test. This is a micro-ATX mobo with the G45 chispet, as you’ve already figured out. As Intel isn’t talking anything beyond the GMA X4500, mobo makers continue to spew forth the dread chipset that hobbles along whilst attempting to provide users with a sample of gaming. Good power consumption but that’s it. Read it here.
The Canucks are testing Gelid’s Silent Spirit CPU cooler. It’s a very teeny tiny heat-pipe cooler with push-pin mounting (not our fave, really). It does an average job of cooling the CPU, but is great when it comes at keeping things silent... Good value in it, too. Read it here.
Albatron’s mobo business peaked some 5-6 years ago but ever since, the company has gone very low profile outside of Asia. TweakTown got hold of a KI780G motherboard, which, as you might guess, is a tiny (mini-ITX) rendition of the 780G chipset (the company’s first, actually). See how it fares, over here.
Guru 3D is testing out OCZ’s ModXtream PRO 600W PSU. It’s cheap, it’s efficient, it’s got high-end features and it’s modular. You can’t really go wrong if you’re looking for an entry-level SLI-certified PSU. Go here for the goods.
Badaboom was the first GPGPU app to magnetise users towards the concept. ATI, stealthily kept on developing their own solution – using the AVIVO brand as a cover – and recently released the AVIVO converter. Ryan at PC Perps has a face-off between these two bits of hardware. ATI seems to have an advantage here, but there are some quirks in the end product that ruin the show for both. Give it a look, here.
Cooler Master has partnered up with the green goblin to create an Uber case, the NV 690 Nvidia Edition. Lots of black and green on the visuals, and lots of NV-friendly features on the inside. You’ve got plenty of cooling from the get-go and can still add your bunch of fans. Read it here. µ
