Facebook and Myspace face off

Unsocial notworking MP3 player mooted
Friday, 7 November 2008, 14:50

EVER SINCE the whole social networking phenomenon began, Internet giants Facebook and Myspace have been battling it out for the top spot. And yesterday they were at it again.

The Web 2.0 Summit in California was host to discussions from each side about the ultimate goal – the future.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg told the gathering his site would continue to expand all over the world, reeling in social network enthusiasts in their millions.

Myspace chief executive Chris DeWolfe told the same audience that that plans for the future of HisSpace focused more on developing new ideas.

He suggested the site could launch its own MP3 player."It's possible," coughed DeWolfe.

While Myspace is keen on expanding both its advertising programme and its music site – Facebook is intent on expanding the web site itself.

"Growth is our top priority," said Zuckerberg. "The challenge that we have is to bring people along the whole path, first bring people along to Facebook, and make people comfortable with sharing information online."

Zuckerberg is also considering pocket devices – yet his plans involve bringing Facebook to the mobile phone. Someone might even have the bright idea of combining a phione and MP3 player. µ

Yeah Ive had both of them. Myspace is better for customization but for people that aint big on html its gonna be way harder. facebook is better for friends. I think overall thou. myspace takes it. but I can see facebook being more popular in the long run cuzz its user friendly.

"Growth is our top priority"

Still ignoring the "make money" issue, eh Zucky ?
Not for much longer though, I'd wager.
