TWO NEW RADIO licences have been awarded today by the regulator Ofcom to be broadcast in Manchester.
According to Ofcom, community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to enrich a particular geographical community or a community of interest.
This is interesting when we consider the first licence has been given to lovingly named, Gaydio and the second to Unity Radio.
No prizes for guessing who Gaydio is aimed at – this station will target the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) listeners in Manchester creating awareness and tackling the issues of homophobia and homophobic practices.
Gaydio hopes to provide a platform for expression and become a focal point for the LGBT community.
Unity Radio is less controversial – this station will reach out to the youth of Manchester, aiming to improve the quality of life for the youngsters of the city.
This youth-focused social enterprise will provide young local broadcasters with mentors from the local music and media industry and build partnerships with education, training and employment services – the station will also feature black dance music such as garage and dubstep.
Unity Radio also aims to tackle difficult and taboo issues including gang culture, sexual health and drug and alcohol abuse.
The licences are awarded for a five-year period. µ

Ofcom
Seems that the population self-identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) becomes more and more. According to my experience on the site *BiLoves dotcom* (a site for coming out, explore sexuality, etc.), there are about 100 members per day and they are very
active. You can imagine. If you come here frequently, you may find what you are looking easily and quickly.
Instead of Ofcom targeting community radios, they should be targeting the big players in the field of communication. For instance, ty should be targeting BT and other providers making them get their000000 act together and dealing with customer complaints. When they fail to deliver, they should be fined the maximum possible.

Leave community radio alone, they are providing a good service to the community. OFCOM ar another government quango that lets the big players off lightly every time. They are a complete waste of our money.
