HSC student flamed in bonfire row

Ears burning

SYDNEY STUDENT Victor Xiong is being flamed on Facebook after thousands of school-leavers got wind of a bonfire party he had planned.

Xiong had a cunning plan to stage a small bonfire with his mates to burn school notes on the last day of their HSC exams.

He posted the event on Facebook last month but by yesterday about 9,000 invitations had been sent and 2,700 guests had confirmed.

The Sydney Technical High School student said that he thought it would be a bit of fun but it seems to have got a bit out of control.

Undeterred Xiong sought help from an event organiser, who suggested either holding a party with fireworks at Darling Harbour for $15 to $25 a head, for those 18 or over; or staging one at a harbourside function centre that could cater for all ages at $20 to $25 a head.

All well and good but the organiser pulled out, and Xiong had to face some miffed schoolmates, some of whom started a hate club on Facebook with the clever name called "Bonfire the guy who started HSC Bonfire, cause we know he's gonna cancel it”.

Xiong is trying to find a new organiser, but thinks that if he can’t life is going to be pretty awful. µ

Sad fact of life today

Nobody has any tolerance for anything but one's own failings. Anything anyone else does has to be perfect from the start, or there will be scapegoating galore.
This guy had a fun idea, didn't properly think it through, and now scores of people have nothing better to do than make a hate club.
Really, people, a HATE club for a non-happening ? Aren't there more important issues to get worked up about ? Where's the tolerance ? Just make your own little bonfire event in your backyard with a few friends.
If everybody does the same, it becomes a meme, and will surely be a lot more fun anyway.
Oh, silly me, I forgot. Nobody has any ideas nowadays, and nothing is fun if it doesn't involve life-threatening quantities of alcohol and/or illegal substances, with the added spice of gang rape.
Ya gads, what is this world coming to ?

Of course

This is exactly the attitude most of Australia has come to expect of Sydneysiders, thinking only of themselves - and only in the short term.

Take the Murray Darling Basin for Example - its being bled dry during extreme drought conditions - so a few Sydney farmers can grow Rice..

Thats right - 50% of Adelaide's Water Supply and a Fair chunk of rural Victorian Towns may well be out of drinking water soon; so a few sydneysiders can feel good about themselves for 'supporting the economy'

goddamnit.
