EA is feeling energetic

Wii Fit doesn't break a sweat
Thursday, 13 November 2008, 16:30

NINTENDO’S WII FIT failed to live up to expectations on the fitness front, which has lead EA to come up with what it hopes will be strong competition on the home exercising front.

Although Wii Fit is still hugely popular in terms of sales, it focuses more on the bending and stretching style of exercise – something which is not really that popular in the West.

This gave EA all the prompt it needed to come up with something a little more energetic.

EA will bring out Sports Active next year - the company claims that it will be a more rigorous and energetic workout in comparison to Nintendo’s effort.

EA is calling the game a, "Customisable and personalised fitness product", with "a new level of motivation," the game also offers fitness statistics and feedback on how well the user is doing.

Sports Active will also offer a range of different exercises with different levels of intensity as well as working out all areas of the body.

Much like most offerings from the Wii, Sports Active will allow for two players at one time meaning family and friends can play together.

EA Sports Active is apparently endorsed by fitness experts as it is a more serious challenge, providing a controlled workout that targets different bits of the body. µ

Stretching and bending...

Oy,

Stretching and bending is not popular in the West because 65% of all yanks are fat and inactive. Rather hard for a fatty to bend and/or stretch, don't you think?

Lol

Yeah right, controlled workout? Controlled by a computer, that doesn't see you, doesn't know you, doesn't know how fit you are etc? Reading any "workout tutorial" is as controlled as what EA creates, it just doesn't prevent you from getting injured in any way.

Wii fit is fine, because stretching and bending with some control gives you little chances of injury. When you go to more dynamic activity, god beware you do it without some proper help at the beggining or you're in for a painfull ride.

I tried Wii Fit, it guessed my age by

getting me to stand still on the board and weigh me. Then it asked me to use my feet to control a ball on screen and to keep it in the middle of the screen. A bit like if you had a ball on flat plate and tried to tilt the plate to keep the ball centered.

With that it told me my age. FFS, seriously, they can tell my age from that?

Was it correct? No. Several years out.

My cousin tried it and the Wii told her she was 20 years older than she is. She is slim and fit and in her 20's. The Wii thought she was mid 40's.

Seems like all it does it use your weight and if you balance forward or backwards on your feet to work out your posture. It then guesses your age. Seriously flawed.

How come none of the reviews I have seen by "professional" reviewers seem to mention this? I must admit to not looking at any reviews, but I've also not seen any hoohah about it being total nonsense.
