WATCH OUT ASUS, because Micro-Star International (MSI) is set to launch three very competitively-priced Wind Neton all-in-one desktop PCs by January.
MSI Chairman, Joseph Hsu, said the new offerings would range in price between $399-799 and would target the multimedia home entertainment market.
Two of the three new models, the 15.6-inch screen M16 and the 18.5-inch screen M19, will apparently be based on Intel’s Atom 270 processor and 945GSE chipset, will boast 1GB DDR2 memory, a 160GB hard drive, a slim optical drive and come with either Windows XP or Linux. MSI is tentatively pricing the M16 at around $399 and the M19 at $499 and the firm says it’s mulling whether to adopt dual-core Atom processors for the PCs in the future.
The 21.5-inch higher performance M22 will boast either an Intel dual-core or quad-core mobile CPU and GS45 chipset to be able to support H.264 and VC1 hardware decoding, have touchscreen control and an optional Blu-ray drive. The price for the bigger Neton, however, will be somewhere in the region of between $599-799.
All in one PCs are a growing market and MSI’s Hsu reckons they might well account for between 30-40 per cent of all desktops within the next three years.
On a less positive note, however, Hsu did admit that MSI was lagging in its 20 million unit motherboard shipment goal for 2008, revising the figure to just16-18 million units. Still, the firm hopes it will manage to hit and maybe even surpass the $2.99 billion revenue mark it’s set itself for this year, with net profits reaching NT$2.7-2.9 billion.
Whether or not it will hit those targets? The answer is blowing in the Wind. µ
