German Wikipedia back online

Left winger drops complaint
Tuesday, 18 November 2008, 08:01

THE GERMAN version of the Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia is back online after a left-wing lawmaker dropped a complaint that the fake penis experts were telling porky pies about him.

Left Party lawmaker Lutz Heilmann was furious that Wackipedia had entries about him that were untrue and went to court to make sure that the editors listened to him.

The article has now had the dodgy bits deleted and the court said Heilmann has withdrawn his complaint. Heilmann says he didn't want to cut off Wikipedia users but wanted the objectionable points removed.

Quite why he didn’t delete them himself and why he needed to go to court to make sure that the wacky editors removed the information, is not clear.

Normally Wackypedia does not have a problem deleting information. Its team of fake doctors and experts on pseudo-penises delete people they don’t like and acts as a police force for the readers of Daily Tech. µ

Good Little Ex-Nazis

Well, it IS the german wackypaedia. Like all good little ex-nazis, somebody else must approve any action. Germans are not known for their initiative. Only their single-mindedness, like getting rid of a few million Jews, homosexuals, Slavs, and other "genetically defective subhumans" cluttering up the landscape. Didn't Lenin and Stalin do that also? Except in their case, it was anyone with more than half a brain cell, who might figure out what a colossal scam they were pulling.

pigeonholing

To Rich Vargo:

You do realize that it is a left-winger (=strictly opposed to Nazis) who tried this ? Besides, if wanted to start generalize we could of course also talk about the highly humane and altruistic rule of the British Empire throughout the world. Any large-scale killings of indigenous people in British Colonies must have happened purely accidental (slipped or something) and all allegations of oppression and cultural eradications are certainly just smear campaigns by those who cant appreciate the blessings of being governed by the highly civilized British.

@ Rich

That might just be the dumbest thing ever said on the Inq. Congrats, that's a pretty low bar to get under, jackass.

?

lolz definately not

the left party is filled up with ex- german democratic republic guys, they always go berserk when somebody criticizes them, and wiki didnt want to play the poker

in the US or Australia people would never get to realize politicians deleting their entries, they just do it secretly

Note

I understand that the guy in question used to be a stasi (former east german state security police), and he didn't mind that that was pointed out and it's still mentioned in the article.
So before defending him because you like lefties.. stasi is the wrong kind of left, known as far right to common people..

de.wikipedia.org wasn't offline...

Some local court in a preliminary measure ordered the redirection wikipedia.de to de.wikipedia.org to be switched off, resulting in the entire German press ridiculing that guy and his east German (ex?)communist party for days.

So the German language Wikipedia was never offline, it's not like there is any infrastructure to bring down an American website merely because some computer illiterate judge wants this to happen, this is not yet China (or Britain for that matter ;-)
