CHIPZILLA CLAIMS that the EC is picking on it over its probe into allegations that it might have used its huge power to gain an unfair advantage over its main rival AMD.
It claims that the Commission is abusing procedures in its probe and has asked that the charges be dropped.
Regulators filed fresh anti-trust charges against the world's largest computer chip-maker in July, accusing it of abusing its dominant position in the market to try to squeeze out AMD.
Intel has asked that the Commission "annul the decisions" on the basis they "contain errors in law". It has also demanded that the Commission hand over charges that the US chip company has incurred to defend itself.
You have to admire a defence that involves attacking the copper that comes to arrest you and then demanding money from the Judge because you might be fined.
The head of the Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA) Ed Black said that he was disappointed that Intel has apparently chosen to attack the law enforcement organisation that is investigating it. He said it was a tactic he had seen used before by other companies when they have concluded they cannot effectively argue the merits of their wrongdoing.
Black added that the European Commission's credibility was strong and, as the historical record demonstrates, it has consistently struck the right balance in antitrust action.µ

When both Intel and Microsoft will be gone the world will be much better.

It seems the EU is on a witch hunt for successful American tech companies. The stuff the EU went after MS for was pathetic, and I'm sure the Intel case is just as frivolous. Europe complains that Americans are sue happy, but it seems that Europeans are big on government bullying.

Face it, AMD make inferior products and is having problems succeeding. If this keeps up we'll all be running Chinese hardware and software that's laced with melamine.
Intel has not been given access to the "evidence" that apparently proves the EU charges. Hey, we have evidence against you, we refuse to show it to you, but you need to defend yourself - again without us showing you what the evidence is....but defend yourself anyway.

Those wacky Intel folks asking to see the actual evidence the EU regulators have used to determine the charges.... Oh the audaciousness! They obviously just need to take the EU's word that it is good!

In 'protecting' the EU consumers (which will NEVER SEE A PENNY FROM ANY FINE); the EU consumer will only get higher CPU pricing as any fine imposed will get passed on in future products. I could at least see the reasonable of this if the EU was actually giving consumers, who bought PC's when Intel was "anti-competitive", back some of their hard earned (and highly taxed) money - but it will only be wasted by the EU commission and their lawyers. But hey they know better how to spend people's money then the people themselves!
"Black added that the European Commission's credibility was strong and, as the historical record demonstrates, it has consistently struck the right balance in antitrust action."

Translation:

"We're never wrong and they're not getting a single penny."
There is evidence going back at least 10 years to substantiate that Intel has violated law to prevent AMD from selling their products. It would be good to see Intel held accountable for their violations of anti-trust laws. This would be good for everyone except Intel of course, who committed the crimes.
Whose side are you on, EC?
Let's review: Remember the big Windows lawsuit about M$ bundling its media player into XP? Ever hear of WIndows N? Didn't think so. It's the stripped down version that the EU fought so hard for... and no one bought it. (well, about 1,500 people did...) What a waste of time and effort. Fast forward a few years later, and M$'s "open" format ooxml is picked over the vastly more prevalent and actually open OpenOffice formats. Huh?
Now, apparently, the EC's after Intel, for what isn't exactly clear. Something to do with Intel giving discounts in exchange for exclusive selling rights through certain companies. Frankly, that happens all the time with other products, at least here in the US: its called being out-bid on a market. Most US restaurants will exclusively sell sodas from one of two major companies: Coca-cola or Pepsico - almost never both. Sports teams are never co-sponsored by competing firms: does Nike complain about not selling shoes to Italy's footballers? (They're supplied by Puma I think). If AMD sold a better product, then maybe people would want to buy it, regardless of what Intel tried to do. Intel's only mistake was wasting money buying off companies to promote a product that was already superior.
I am in my early forty's, but I don't expect to live long enough to see resolution of this lawsuit! LOL

If you can't out litigate them..... out last-em!
Have you ever read a book, or seen a documentary called "The Corporation"? It states that all corporations behave like psychopaths, whose symptoms are, amongst others:
-Considerable superficial charm and average or above average intelligence.
-Grandiose self-worth -- a grossly inflated view of one's abilities and self-worth, self-assured, opinionated, cocky, a braggart. (IDF?) -Psychopaths are arrogant people who believe they are superior human beings (or AMD).
-Unreliability, disregard for obligations no sense of responsibility, in matters of little and great import. Failure to accept responsibility for one's actions (attacks to the Euro. comm.?).
-Untruthfulness and insincerity.
-Poor judgment and failure to learn from experience.
-Pathological egocentricity. Total self-centeredness incapacity for real love and attachment.
-Pathological lying.
-An impersonal, trivial, and poorly integrated sex life.

Does this list (which is actually taken from a health related site) remind you of someone? Well, except for the fact that intel doesn't have sex (or does it? does raping DAAMIT count?), it seems a little clear: la intella acts like a total psycho. But that's no news...

if you'd finally get around to renicking Chipzilla to the more-correct Chiprael.
Once again Intel illustrates why all of it's executive level staff and paid liars should be sent to prison for 20 years and fined a 100 Billion (that's with a B), Euro for their violation of numerous laws. Intel is no stranger to crime, they have been caught and fined numerous times for blatant tax evasion.

Now when they have been caught using illegal mafia style means to block sales of AMD products, Intel attacks the EU regulators as if they are wrong for holding Intel accountable for their crimes. It's time all Intel criminals be incarcerated for a long, long time and the PC marketplace returned to a free market.
seems intel thinks themself too big , important and just untouchable .
so far in the EU trial coverage they dont seem to care what intel does to delay, i personally think they want intel to delay to rack up more fines and they will still find them guilty when they get off their arse and comply with court orders.
and of course after a fair trial
Let the good times roll.
Great journalistic balance there guys.
Go to an AMD sock puppet like Ed Black from commentary.

Intel have been abusing their position for years. Anyone who has been on the receiving end of it knows how they operate.

I am amazed they have the audacity to sit there squealing about it when everyone knows its true.
