Wii draws punters and puns

But not here
Fri Dec 08 2006, 15:04
NINTENDO'S LONDON launch at HMV Oxford Street last night attracted 500 punters, according to a story on CVG. Hardly the "carnage" mentioned in the headline but a decent enough turn-out to see the likes of Pat Cash and Ian Wright support the release.

The site quotes a 17-year-old lad who pitched his tent in the sordid, litter-strewn, tourist-disappointing, tat-touting street on Tuesday to be sure of being front of queue. That deserves a medal for bravery, not just a games console, by the way.

"I have been looking forward to this day for months," Marwan Elgamal said. "Despite the cold and rain, it was well worth it - not only was I the very first person in the UK to own the Wii, but I also got to thrash Ian Wright in a game of Wii Sports"

Bless.

Wii has not only been long awaited by gamers, of course, but also by headline writers keen to show they have unearthed a subtle pun. A selection of the groaners:

But the winner, natch, is The Sun's, I queued three days for a Wii, here
