Xerox takes on HP

Colour copy wars
Mon Sep 24 2007, 08:46
ANCIENT OF DAYS Xerox is involved in a price cutting war with the maker of expensive printer ink HP.

According to Reuters, the move is designed to chip away at HP's market dominance at least at the top end of the market.

The latest move has seen Xerox launching five printers that it says will slash the cost of color printing for high-volume users.

The five printers use solid ink which apparently can make colour pages for the same cost as black-and-white. The only downside is that the machines cost a lot more initially.

Solid ink uses wax ink sticks rather than the cartridges of powdered toner found in laser printers and it works like a high-end offset press.

A spokesXerox said that HP colour toner is five times more expensive.

The new machines are ranged between $2,500 to $4,000 which is about $1,000 more than the HP equivalent. More here. µ
