Money raised goes to charity

WE REPORTED LAST month that an Intel Prescott survival kit, courtesy of chip maker AMD, had been reviewed. Now five of those kits are up for auction, which have a starting bid of $50.

Here's the auction blurb:

"You've read about it. You've heard about it from friends and colleagues. Now you have the opportunity to be one of the select few to have the Prescott Survival Kit. These kits are rare commodities as fewer than 200 were created. AMD is auctioning off 5 survival kits to the highest bidders. The kit comes complete with all the items you've heard about including: o An oven mitt to protect you from the heat generated by the Prescott processor and a USB fan to keep you cool. o Ear plugs to block the noise generated by the Prescott cooling fans. o A CD to back up your files (currently shipping versions of Prescott do not have virus protection technology enabled.) Please enjoy the kit in the humorous spirit in which it is intended. Proceeds from the survival kits will be used to purchase fans for low-income elderly to help cool off during the hot summer months."
