A-Data showcases server memory

FB-DIMM gets into higher gear, consumes less power
Thursday, 28 June 2007, 09:06
A-DATA and Tyan are showcasing some interesting products for servers on ISC 007 (International Supercomputing Conference) in Dresden, Germany.

The news predominatly are focused in the region of Registered DIMM and FB-DIMM, where company managed to create lower-power DIMMs that offer increased capacity as well.

The showcased models are 1GB DDR2-667 Registered DIMM and 1GB DDR2-667 FB-DIMM for low-power servers, such as 50 Watt Clovertowns and more importantly, for stable operation of AMD and Intel based PersonalSuperComputer machines (TyanPSC).

These machines were designed by our old friend John McClure and idea is to put 200 GFLOPS (2-5TFLOPS in future) in a portable box that can be transported to the scene where that computing power is needed.

Besides these low-power modules, A-DATA is also developing DDR2-800 FB-DIMM and Registered ECC in higher capacity ranging from one to four gigabytes per module. DDR2-800 is slowly, but surely - becoming a standard in high performance computing as well. ยต
