Subject: AMD seeking site for new 65nm fab

I know where AMD can place a Fab, and it is already built and ready for them to move in and use. Where is it? Germany, USA, Singapore? No. It is in good old South Wales.

Yes, a stone's throw form J28 of the M4 is (un)lucky Goldstar's huge fab complex that was finished a few years ago and never used due to the collapse of the "tiger economy". It has already received huge amounts of Welsh development agency funding, but has only resulted in the employment of a handful of security guards positions (and the accompanying small growth in the local coffee supply sector).

Perhaps LG and AMD should have a chat about reducing time-to-market for 65mm chips and giving some jobs to to highly skilled Welsh people. Dr. Peter Reeves-Hall

Hi there.. I am referring to your article speculating about where AMD will have some fun with its next fab. Let me help you: It is definately *not* Dresden, Germany!

As you put it: "AMD boss [...] hopes to "break ground" on the facility before the end of the year." -- Sorry, such stuff will never happen again anytime soon with such short notice in this country. We are waay too messed up these days bureaucracy-wise. I bet you any money, Hector wouldn't rip that deal off even if this fab was to turn lead into gold...

Cheers
Matthias

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
