Hand over your iPods

Chip outfit adds insult to injury

CHIP OUTFITt National Semiconductor which hit the headlines a month ago by giving all its employees video iPods, has now demanded them back.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the outfit laid off 35 workers from its Arlington plant and as they were collecting their p45s the bosses wanted the iPods back. The employees were stunned as many of them had given the things away or had flogged them.

The workers claim that the outfit never told their employees they were 'company property'.

NS spokesperson LuAnn Jenkins said didn't know whether the company ever intended for the workers to keep the iPods.

Then the argument got down to whether or not the press release that announced the handing over of the iPods was meant to be taken literally or not.

The Press release said that National Semiconductor was "equipping" its employees with the iPods media devices. But it is easy to see why the workers got confused. The outfit added that the iPods were being given to distribute company information as well as reward its 8,500 workers for its best fiscal year ever.

Still it is adding insult to injury that you make your staff redundant and then demand they hand over the iPod that they didn't want but you gave them anyway.
