Tivo link for Macs mooted

Macworld rumours are go

MACWORLD IS is coming up next month so I suppose it's daft December rumour time again, but the latest blog gossip has an enticing ring about it.

PVRblog reports that it received an email suggesting Apple will license Tivo technology for its iTV wireless set-top box that was announced in September. The same tipster suggests that the iTV name will change to Mac Media Capsule.

Despite a few loyalists, Tivo did very little business in the UK and Sky is the dominant provider of PVR services but Sky still has no Tivo-like way of guessing the programmes you might want to watch and the broadcaster might be resting on its laurels a little too comfortably. Maybe the market could move again here and elsewhere.

With reference to the renaming, it would be hard for Apple to launch a product that replicates the name of one of the most popular broadcasters in the UK so a name change was on the cards anyway.

Macworld begins 8 January in San Francisco. µ
