Asustek and Gigabyte form joint venture

Hon Hai? Och no
Wednesday, 9 August 2006, 09:47
MOBO MAKERS Asustek and Gigabyte are bunging NT$8 billion into a joint venture, the Taipei Times reports. One US dollar buys NT$32.8.

The two firms have been the subject of merger speculation for some years. Gigabyte will fund its half of the JV by spinning off its own brand mobos and graphics card and will hold 51 per cent of the company.

The TT said the firms have denied that the JV is a response to threats from Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai. Gigabyte chairman Dandy Yeh is worried about severe price slashing. ยต
