Microsoft Vista to churn "$70 billion" for IT industry

Survey or crystal balls?
Mon Dec 11 2006, 07:46
A SURVEY commissioned by Microsoft claims that its operating system, Vista, will help the US economy to significantly grow in the first year it ships.

The survey, carried out by IDC on the Vole's behalf, will create 100,000 new jobs and $70 billion for Microsoft's partner and the whole industry, it's claimed.

"Each dollar of Windows Vista earned by Microsoft in 2007 will generate more than $18 in revenue for the IT industry at large," claims Microsoft.

What's the evidence for this? This PDF from IDC shows that it is all rather smoke and mirrors, with the data research firm, or its masters, inventing the Windows Vista "effect".

The whole thing is, essentially, speculation generated in house. AMD and Autodesk endorsed the so-called "survey". µ
