Intel nets profit of $1.6 billion

ASPs down, half a fab, core blimey

THE QUIET PERIOD is not yet over at the Intel Corporation, believe us.

La Intella turned in net profits of $1.6 billion on revenues of $8.9 billion which is not the way it used to be but is certainly not at all bad for the first season in the new financial year. AMD declares its results this Thursday.

The figures are down slightly from last year's same period but, said Paul Otellini, the ASPs held up. Gross margin was over 50 per cent. There's a lower gain from server chips and desktop and mobile chips were flat as a pancake can be.

Gross margin for FQ2 will be 48 per cent plus or minus.
