Canadian health authorities worried by Wi-Fi

Think of the children

A PLAN to wire up Toronto to make it a huge WiFi hotspot is being investigated by heath authorities who are concerned it might give everyone cancer.

Toronto's public health department said it is following up complaints that the plan, by Toronto Hydro, to install wireless WiFi transmitters on streetlight posts throughout the city, could cause health problems. The investigation follows a letter writing campaign by a small number of parents who say they are concerned about the unknown health effects it will have on their children.

In a letter to a local paper, one of the parents, Helen Armstrong said she did not want her daughter exposed to this unwanted health risk and why should everyone become guinea pigs?

Dave Dobbin, president of Toronto Hydro Telecom, the technology also complies with Health Canada safety standards and it had found no health risks associated with Wi-Fi.

This might be because WiFi is radio and that has been bouncing around Toronto for many years now. If the Health officials do agree with the concerned parents it will mean they will have to order the switching off of all radios, mobile phones, garage doors, microwave transmitters, ground all aircraft and return Toronto to the Middle Ages.
