Terrorists threaten to cyber attack stock market

Homeland security warning
Friday, 1 December 2006, 07:40
THE US US Department of Homeland security has warned that a terrorist group is planning a cyber attack on stock market and banking websites.

The warning came after officials noticed a "Jihadist website" calling for the attack in December.

Homeland Security said that there was no actual evidence that the group could manage such an attack and the warning was 'just routine'.

According to Associated Pressthe attacks could made as a retaliation for the holding of Muslims at the US prison at Guantanamo Bay which houses prisoners accused of ties to terrorist groups.

The attacks could be carried out throughout December until the "infidel new year," the site said.

Indicating the level of the terrorist's expertise, the site called for attackers to use viruses that can penetrate Internet sites and destroy data stored there.
