RUMOURS THAT AMD might go fabless have miffed the American firm, especially in Germany where makes most of its chips.

A a loose-lipped analyst started it all off, with AMD spokesman Drew Prarie adding fuel to the fire by admitting the firm is "looking to find ways to extend that (outsourcing) model beyond research and development to the full range of the manufacturing supply chain."

A piece on Arstechnica proved the final straw for the embattled firm which today came out with a statement in Germany to put the record straight.

Dresden, where AMD has its showcase Fabs 30 and 36 will remain a producer of innovative processor designs, the firm insisted. Any rumours to the contrary have no basis in fact and are completely "out of the rumour kitchen" the firm told our old mate Nico at Golem.

"The same applies to the associated analyst reports," the firm said, according to our own translation. "To spell it out clearly: we have at no time stated or even thought about dumping our fabs," the firm said. ยต
