Google backs down on Belgian court ruling

Explains court decision online
Mon Sep 25 2006, 07:56
GOOGLE HAS issued the battle cry "run away, run away" after receiving a drubbing in a Belgium court over its refusal to print a judgment that went against it.

Google lost a court case which prevented it publishing French news content from Belgium magazines. The court ordered Google to print details of the court ruling on its web page, but Google refused and appealed.

It has now lost the appeal and somewhat sulkily put up the notice which it had previously described as "disproportionate and unnecessary."

Then again it is probably not as disproportionate and unnecessary as paying a €500,000 daily fine for not complying.

We have to admit the ruling does make the page look ugly.
